This twenty-four-day residency took place in Littlestown, Pennsylvania at Alloway Creek Elementary School in February of 2020. Much of the residency documentation can be found https://twitter.com/littleboltsart.
The target group was the third graders. The overall goal of the residency was to team teach with the classroom teacher(s) a unit on immigration using photography. The lessons were comprised of visual literacy, written literacy, and verbal literacy. Having students think about what they would bring if they were immigrating to the United States through Ellis Island. The students brought an object from home that they photographed and write about. After both were completed they presented their story and photograph to the class. Due to COVID-19 mitigation, the following did not happen. However, students were to have the opportunity to use the STEM green screen recording studio to record their stories for the final presentation at fine arts night at the end of the year, a QR code was to allow parents and school administration to access the project; it was to be attached to the framed print of their object.
